I won’t pretend that I can think of anything that makes me believe Donald Trump might be even a minimally okay President. But in the context of this blog, anyway, I am particularly bothered that he doesn’t like to read. (There are people I dearly love who don’t like to read, either, but none of them should be President.) Even George W. Bush liked to read, and I must say I adore his affection for I Am Charlotte Simmons as much as I do Hillary Clinton’s for Clan of the Cave Bear. Trash for all!
I am just reading Pamela’s S. Turner’s Samurai Rising, where, in reflecting on one samurai’s possible motivations, she makes that completely resonant point that “there is nothing in the world as dangerous as a man bristling with weapons and insecurities.” Add ignorance and incuriosity to that mix and you’ve got yourself someone who never, ever, should be President.
